Sonia Gandhi was today formally re-elected as Congress President.
The announcement was made by the Central Election Authority (CEA) Chairperson, Oscar Fernandes in the presence of Gandhi and several senior leaders.

Fernandes later presented a certificate to Gandhi about her election. "I declare Sonia Gandhi duly elected unopposed President of the Indian National Congress," he said.

Star batsman Sachin Tendulkar, who had been suffering from a tennis elbow, has undergone surgery on his left elbow in London.

"The surgery was successfully conducted yesterday at London," BCCI secretary S K Nair said. Tendulkar was now almost certain to miss the tri-series in Sri Lanka as he was likely to be out of action for about three to four months.
